ALD™ uses its own proprietary Proper Mandarin™ Curriculum © and Textbook Series. The Proper Mandarin™ Curriculum and Textbook Series is a modern comprehensive system for native English speaking students to learn Mandarin Chinese language.
ALD’s Proper Mandarin™ curriculum uses both Zhuyin and Pinyin phonetics to teach conversation and Chinese characters, both traditional and simplified, with modern methods like computer typing.
It spans five stages from simple words and phrases to mastery of the language. At the conclusion of the series, students will be prepared for college level Chinese language and culture examinations.

Each level in the Proper Mandarin™ Textbook Series consists of a textbook, a workbook, and companion multimedia CD and other resources. The workbook and multimedia resources feature listening, reading, and writing exercises and games. There are also teacher guides and some levels include related learning aids like flashcards. All lessons in the Proper Mandarin™ Textbook Series include clear English language references.
